5.0 out of 5 stars Sangean iPod Dock/Clock Radio, December 13, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
I recently purchased this product for my son (11) to use as an alarm clock. I must say that I was VERY pleased with the sound and overall quality of this i-pod clock radio after a LENGTHY (and somewhat frustrating) search. This category is extremely crowded with options and we searched for quite some time at local retailers as well as online. Retailers have these stocked in at least 3 locations, too, which makes the search all that much more challenging. I'm so happy we found this one as it is NOT in-stock at many (if any) local stores!

GOOD - This is one of the FEW appliances of this type that offer a LINE OUT option. That was important because we thought we might want to connect it to a set of external speakers in the future, however, it excluded nearly every option out there, so we almost gave that up. The other thing we like is the 8 different brightness settings as many of the reviews on other products listed brightness as a complaint one way or the other... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent build quality - great features - probably best choice under $100, March 3, 2011

I've had the RCR-10 for about a month and am very pleased with it. It works perfectly with my 4th generation iPod touch and looks really sharp on my nightstand. Before buying it, I did a pretty exhaustive search of all clock radios equipped with an iPod dock, and this appeared to be the best available for under $100. Occasionally it goes on sale for about $60 and is a no-brainer at that price.

This product is ALMOST worthy of 5 stars - I'd give it 4.5 if I could.

Features I especially like:

- The build quality is quite good: the speaker grille is real metal, and the buttons on top are real pushbuttons, not cheap membrane keys. The unit is broad and flat, has a bit of weight to it, and stays put on your nightstand. It won't fall over as you flail around for the snooze button (which is right up front and plenty big). A particularly nice touch: it's equipped with clear rubber feet instead of the black kind that can discolor your furniture (due to... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice atomic ipod clock radio combo, January 4, 2011

I've been looking for an ipod dock, radio alarm clock with an atomic clock for sometime.

I have atomic clocks throughout the house and find them very handy - I never have to change or reset their time due to daylight savings or power outage.

I also like having the option to listen to either my ipod or the radio when falling asleep, and as an alarm.

This radio fits all those needs and it works very well. I liked it so much I purchase one for each of my kids.

They both liked how well the unit controlled their ipods - you can use the controls to access anything once the ipod is docked. They also each setup two alarms - one for school days (weekdays) and one for weekend.

All the additional functions including the sleep function, and digital radio with presets were easy to use with a little help from the manual.

The sound quality seemed great to me (but I'm not overly picky) and the radio reception was excellent compared... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, April 10, 2007

I spent a lot of time reviewing other waterproof shower radios, and this one seemed to have a lot of customer satisfaction. I've been using this radio for about 4 weeks now. Such a big improvement of the previous radio I was using. The sound quality is very good and the signal reception is excellant. I use it in the basement bathroom and even tucked away in the shower in the basement, it manages to pull in the stations I had trouble receiving with the previous radio. Very nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best ever shower radio!, September 27, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Sangean H201 AM/FM Digital Shower Radio (Electronics)
Bought this to replace a Sony shower radio I've had for years. I was amazed at the difference in quality. The sound is superb, it sounds like you have a component hifi in the bathroom. I use it mostly, but not only, to listen to the news, and the voice quality is amazingly clear. The volume can be set very loud with no distortion. One great little feature that is not described well in the listing is that the FM antenna in the back swings around to become a beautiful and very solid semi-circular handle for the radio, so you can carry it around the house very easily. FM reception is outstanding, AM so-so, but that's inevitable and due to my location.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sangean Shower Radio, May 15, 2007

This review is from: Sangean H201 AM/FM Digital Shower Radio (Electronics)
Overall I am satisfied with this purchase and would buy it again. This is the 2nd Sangean radio I've purchased and both have met or exceeded my expectations but they are not cheap. You pretty much get what you pay for.

This radio has a solid feel, nothing flimsy about it and I like the way that the handle rotates down to hide in the back. This radio has good sound for the size, no complaints, but it is not great. This is not a boom box so you are not going to hear it across the backyard but it fills a room nicely. It is great for the bathroom and can be heard over the shower.

I like the digital controls with the station presets. It would be nice to have more than 5 per band but for me that is a minor fault.

The radio has reasonable reception even with the antenna stowed away. When the antenna is extended the reception is very good. Note, the antenna is not the telescoping type but is a wire that is stowed near the battery compartment when not in use... Read more

Sangean WR-2 Digital AM/FM Tabletop Radio, Black for $110.00

Customer Rating :
Rating: 4.3

List Price : $169.00 Price : $110.00
Sangean WR-2 Digital AM/FM Tabletop Radio, Black

Product Description

Digital AM/FM Table Top Receiver designed to provide exceptional audio reproduction utilizing a special acoustically balanced enclosure combined with a enhanced frequency response speaker and Sangean's advanced audio circuitry providing the sound and features of a large home stereo system.

Amazon.com Product Description

Boasting an acoustically balanced wooden enclosure and an enhanced front-firing 3-inch speaker, the Sangean WR-2 tabletop radio offers the sound and features of a living room system in a cabinet that fits conveniently in a bedroom, kitchen, or garage. Any discussion of the WR-2 begins with its black wooden housing, which is rich in both appearance and tone. The cabinet's front surface features the speaker on the left side, a series of intuitively placed control buttons toward the bottom, and a generously sized LCD display in the middle with three brightness levels. More importantly, the cabinet teams with the 7-watt amplifier and the acoustic bass compensation system to add warmth and depth to the audio. Complementing the housing is Sangean's advanced RF/IF electronic circuitry, which picks up distant AM and FM stations and reproduces them with unmatched clarity, making music and even talk programs come alive.

Even though the WR-2 is advertised as an AM/FM radio, it offers much more than a standard digital tuner, including a Radio Data System (RDS) that displays short text messages on applicable FM stations, along with support for the Enhanced Other Network (EON) and its traffic information (available in certain regions). And unlike most tabletop radios, the WR-2 lets listeners adjust the treble and bass levels via the variable volume control. In its default mode, the rotary volume knob displays the volume level from 1 to 60. Tap it once, however, and it turns into a full-range treble control, and two taps creates a full-range bass control. Additional features include a clock with an alarm (radio or buzzer), an auxiliary input jack for connecting such devices as an iPod or MP3 player (both of which sound great through the speaker), a recording output jack, 10 memory presets that help you quickly find your favorite stations, and a full-featured infrared remote control.

A final bonus stems from the power backup function, which plays the radio for six minutes during a power failure (great for emergencies) and retains the memory preset and clock values for about an hour. The WR-2 measures roughly 9.5 by 4.5 by 6 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 5.5 pounds.

What's in the Box
WR-2 tabletop radio, detachable power cord, infrared remote control, user's manual.

  • Compact tabletop AM/FM radio with black wooden enclosure and front-firing 3-inch speaker
  • 7-watt amplifier and acoustic bass compensation system deliver warm, room-filling audio
  • Advanced RF/IF electronic circuitry clearly reproduces distant AM/FM stations
  • Full-range adjustable treble and bass controls; Radio Data System (RDS) support
  • Auxiliary input jack for connecting iPod or MP3 player; measures 9.5 by 4.5 by 6 inches (W x H x D)

4.0 out of 5 stars Warm Speaker Sound and Great AM, August 20, 2005

This review is from: Sangean WR-2 Digital AM/FM Tabletop Radio, Black (Electronics)
This is a very appealing clock radio with digital readout that gives you name of song, artist, and other information as you listen. The mono aural speaker is warm and full. The radio is attractive, solid and well-built, evincing nothing cheap or plastic-laden. The AM is very good. Most FM stations come in strong. But hard-to-get FM stations like 89.3 from Pasadena (I live 40 miles away in Torrance) requires that I move the FM antenna, but this is not a big deal, just a nitpick.

Most listeners will love the WR-2. But if you're a radio buff like I am and enjoy the outstanding FM reception of the Grundig S350, the Kaito 1101 and 1103 models (called Degen in China), then I'm afraid the WR-2 will disappoint. To be fair to the WR-2, the more expensive Bose radio suffers the same problem of mediocre FM reception.

Another important point: Because this radio has a remote control, it works great in your computer office. You can keep the WR-2 six feet or so away from your... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Attractive and rich sound, August 25, 2006
I researched a lot of clock radios, including models from Tivoli, Boston Acoustic, Cambridge Soundworks, Bose, Proton/Sangean, and decided on this unit for the following reasons: stereo headphone jack; line in for MP3; front(vs. top-mounted) 3" speaker; programmable, digital tuning; digital clock. To my mind, it is oxymoronic to expect stereo speakers on a compact clock radio--the unit is on my night table and I am not sure how I can perceive stereo separation given that configuration; however, I do desire stereo headphone capability, which the unit delivers. When I lived in New Hampshire, I had very few stations to listen to, owing to poor reception, in spite of the external FM antenna. Now that I am in the metro Boston area, I do not find reception to be an issue. I have never been able to set my clock automatically with the RDS, but the other features, i.e. song title, artist, radio station work satisfactorily. I think the sound of the unit is superb, but it would be interesting... Read more
